Its been a busy week for me and I am sure it has been for anyone else who is in the teaching field or has kids. The students have really poured in the past couple weeks, and I am adjusting to the new schedule.
I also had an audition for a substitute flute job in Augusta in Tuesday (no results yet but I'll keep you posted as soon as I do). It went ok, well pretty well for me. I regret the tempo I took for "Daphnis and Chloe" and I know my sound is a little "course" or "raw" in comparison to alot of flutist. We'll see, but I did have a good time.
I did stop in Madison, GA before the audition to walk the small town's historic district and have the best fried green tomato sandwich on the planet at Madison Chophouse Grille. I hope I get the sub job just so I have an excuse to get the sandwich on my way down. I always try to squeeze in a mini vacation on these auditions, because usually I am in places I have never been before.
Now that audition mania is over with for the time being, I need to focus on concerts, duoATL will be performing this Sunday(8/30) at 2pm at the Summer Shade Festival here in Atlanta at Grant Park. We will be at the Milledge Fountain stage. We'll be performing some Piazzolla, Pujol, Krusbrink, and a new piece by Brian Luckett, finally. :) So come down (pray the weather will be nice) and have a beer while we play. Admission is free, unfortunately not the beer.
I'll also post some new dates soon for Mercury Season (arranging more Piazzolla!), Agnes Scott College, some other venues, and I will start playing with the jazz group After Hours Quintet starting on September 18 at Trilogy in Marietta.
With each day I feel more like a musician and making a decent living doing it. I just regret not taking the leap earlier. But we all know I wasn't really ready to take that leap until I did this May. I'm glad I did.

The journey continues
The journey continues to find out exactly where I belong and what i am suppose to be doing with my life. I think I know what I want but then life throws you a curve ball to see what you'll actually hold on to.
I think the next couple of weeks might help me determine what I want to keep striving for...of course you know the ol saying, "Anything worth keeping (or getting) is worth fighting for".
This week duoATL had a gig, although a minor gig in Cartersville. Anyone, but me apparantly, should have known that this was not the gig for us. I think the wind made that clear when it was finally successful in ripping the pages from our clips. Nothing worse than stopping to fix your pages and starting again, no matter how small the crowd. I don't see many more outside gigs in our future. Other than that and all the distractions (motorcycles, sirens, and trains) we played basically well. However, lesson learned in my booking capablilties. Better luck next time.
This Saturday I head off to Macon to try and audition for the Macon Symphony sub flute part. I will try to be confidant, and think positive. Finding inspiration from Anne's blog.
Wish me luck! This will probably be my last big event for the year, besides the usual musical wanderings I do for the rest of the year. Next big recital isn't until February.

Week of Rejection
So this wasn't a steller week, and actually a pretty broke week. The dog had surgery...good news is he's recovering very well, the rotor and brakes went out on the car, a work of mine was rejected from a local performance group (there were 200 submissions so I don't feel incredibly bad about that), and I didn't make my audition for the Alabama Symphony (I didn't even advance past the initial round).
Needless to say, this week has been a huge blow to the ol' ego. When it rains it pours. Oh well, I've had worse weeks. Rejection is nothing new, and I'm sure it will never go away. It'll just make the few small successes better...when they finally happen.
I am looking foward to some vacation time, and I'm gonna go home to Savannah this weekend to try to get a jump start on feeling like I am on vacation. I'm gonna step back and see if I can get a new plan of attack.
